Peter Bowey's new Acer Computer System recommendations; updated for May 2008
I actually like Acer Computers, they offer you good performance and very stable hardware - for a very reasonable cost. Acer offer world wide (and Australia wide) support, similar to DELL, and allow you to further customize your choices on Laptop or Desktop requirements. Acer allow you to choose between Windows XP or Windows Vista as the supplied operating system (on most Acer models).
Acer offer genuine Intel Chipset's on most of their hardware range; this means (from my long technical experience), a longer life and stability for you - along with a performance exceeding other 'non-Intel' based hardware. Yes, I have fixed, and replaced many computer parts in my 23 years of computer service and repair, and it is true that few manufacturers have approached this historically proven stability and performance of the Intel chipset.

Note: Using Windows Vista for the above Acer Systems:
All the above machines run and support Windows Vista Windows Vista Business Edition very nicely! It is the same cost for you to have Windows Vista Business Edition supplied on either. However for the two Desktop S460's, with Vista, I recommend that you do choose to pay the extra to have the full 2Gb of memory (the laptops already has 2Gb of memory). Vista loves and needs memory (2Gb is best)!
